About Spice Valley, Indiana
Spice Valley is a quiet rural township in western Lawrence County, covering about 71 square miles with just over 2,000 residents at the 2020 census. Its small communities include Williams, Huron, Bryantsville, and Georgia, and the township holds nine cemeteries, among them Bryantsville, Georgia, and Huron, that have received local families for generations. Bryantsville's post office opened in 1846, and Huron was named by early settlers for Huron, Ohio.
Williams sits on State Road 450 beside the East Fork of the White River. Its Williams Dam, built between 1910 and 1913, once supplied electricity to the stone industries of Bedford and Bloomington, and just downriver stands the Williams Bridge, a covered Howe truss bridge built in 1884 that is the longest double-span covered bridge in Indiana and has been on the National Register of Historic Places since 1981. Farther south, U.S. 50 runs through Bryantsville and Huron past the Hoosier National Forest, where Tincher Pond is a favorite quiet fishing spot between the two.
